Hair Care
I had issues with my hair breaking, falling out, and becoming dull. In fact, my hair was in a pixie for a time because of this. Today, my hair routine has helped bring my long, healthy hair back!
I wash my hair once per week. If you think your hair is too oily for this, use dry shampoo until your body adjusts. Over time, I have found I don’t need dry shampoo at all, except after I use the sauna. Trust me, your body adjusts.
I have almost completely removed heat from my hair care routine. I only blow dry my hair once a month at the most, and I rarely use a curling or straight iron.
Dry Shampoo:
• I use Be Green dry shampoo (EWG verified) - https://begreenbathandbody.com/products/dry-shampoo
• But I also make my own by combining equal parts arrowroot powder and unsweetened cocoa powder or activated charcoal (for darker roots) or cinnamon powder (for lighter roots). Add 6 drops essential oil per 4 Tbs powder (optional), and store in a short, wide mouthed mason jar so you can apply the powder using a large makeup brush - https://amzn.to/3SNbes0
• For travel, I occasionally use Batiste Brunette (EWG 7 product), because it works well and also colors my roots: https://amzn.to/3whpqCg
Shampoo/Conditioner:
• Avalon Organics Shampoo and Conditioner (EWG verified product): https://amzn.to/49dhwIw
• Acure Curiously Clarifying Shampoo (EWG 2 product): https://amzn.to/3SU9LkU
• Acure Ultra Hydrating Conditioner (EWG 3 product): https://amzn.to/42AxUAd
Nightly Routine:
Because I only wash my hair once per week, I have a nightly hair routine to keep my hair healthy in between washes.
• Brush with boar bristle brush gently scraping scalp to pull scalp oils into the hair - https://amzn.to/3wkNRhP
• If your hair is longer, then add 1 drop of almond oil into the ends of the hair - https://amzn.to/487BFhO)
To Curl Your Hair:
To curl my hair, I roll a section of hair in a no-show sock and tie the two ends of the sock together around hair. Use less socks for loose curls and more socks for tighter curls.
Hair Color:
I still color my own hair, remember the goal is to reduce toxin exposure, but there may be products that you don’t want to give up and that’s okay. For me, that’s my hair color! I color my hair roots quarterly using Loreal Excellence Crème: https://amzn.to/3I2jMpT, which is an EWG 8 product.
