Coaching vs. Counseling vs. Mentoring - how coaching differs from counseling and mentoring

Coaching has similarities to counseling/therapy and mentoring, but is unique in several ways. One major distinction is that coaching is actually designed to work in conjunction with the healthcare system. The healthcare system addresses disability and signs and symptoms of illness, while coaching addresses awareness, education, and growth of individuals. These combined help the individual work towards optimal wellness. Watch this video to learn more about the similarities and differences or check out the "What is Coaching?" page on this website.

Here is a basic sum-up:

Coaching: future focused on self-improvement and behavior change.

Counseling/Therapy: past focused on healing of trauma and correcting disfunction.

Mentoring: future focused on informal guidance and modeling from someone more experienced.
